The mystery of the 8's in the czech history

Well, the year 2008 is knocking on the door. Better said, the year 2008 is knocking...

There is something interesting about the years which ends by number "8" in the relatively short history of Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia). Let me lead you through.

Eight No. 1 - 1918, October 28
Europe exhausted by World War I. From split up of Austria-Hungary monarchy spring several new states, including Czechoslovakia. We have started to write a new chapter of history.

Eight No. 2 - 1938, September 29
Munich Agreement. Representatives of Great Britain (Neville Chamberlain), France (Edouard Daladier), Germany (Adolf Hilter) and Italy (Benito Mussolini) have signed Munich dictate. Young Czechoslovak republic lost Sudetenland, being betrayed by Great Britain and France. German occupation and World War II. has just begun.

Eight No. 3 - 1948, February 25
Coup. From democracy to socialism. New age came - Czechoslovakia definitely behind iron curtain.

Eight No 4. - 1968, August 21
Prague spring - political period of liberalization - was cut off by military invasion of "allied" armies from Soviet Union, east Germany, Hungary, Poland and Bulgaria. Soviet military forces remain deployed in Czechoslovakia till 1991.

"Eight" No. 5 - 1989, November 17
Well, one year later, but it's within statistical toleration :)
Velvet revolution - Czechoslovakia, as well as most of members of eastern block, have "beaten" totality communists regime, without violence.

Eight No. 6 - 1998
Czech Ice hockey representation won the Nagano olympics championship.

Magical "eights" can bring positives, but negatives as well. So how will finally look the Eight No. 7? It is upon us ...
